Teperberg Winery / Efrat Wines

Efrat became Teperberg — the winery is now named Teperberg.

Upmarket wines are produced under the label „Teperberg“.

History

The symbolic beginning of the winery was in 1827, when Abraham Teperberg escaped from Odessa to Austria and there studied the secrets of wine.

When he immigrated to Israel in 1870, he built the first winery in the old city together with his son Zeev, who is acknowledged as founder of the company. The name Efrat was chosen according to the biblical street „Efrata is Beth-Lechem“, the way on which the grapes were brought to the winery. The Hebrew name shows, that here it started to produce kosher wine for the commercial market, here in Israel.

Today the winery is led by Motti Teperberg, the 5th generation of the Teperberg family. The family property is one of the landmarks of the company and lately with Amotz Teperberg the 6th generation stepped into the company. He combines work with scientific studies.
